The Ethiopian lawyer and women's rights activist discusses the matter-of-fact way too many patriarchal men treat rape. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/meaza-ashenafi-discusses-difret Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Transcript - Ethiopia is a country with over 19 million population and the country was a long history very rich culture. And unfortunately some of the traditional practices and norms affect women negatively. And the practice of telefa, which is abducting girls for marriage, is one of the harmful practices that affect the physical and mental as well as social-economic lives of women in Ethiopia. I heard about the story on the radio. I was in a car. I was a driver and we were listening to a radio and there was media coverage about 14-years-old girl being abducted and raped and killing her would the husband. So as soon as I learned about the story, I immediately thought that we should be going to this place, which is 300 km outside of Addis Ababa where we work. And we should be able to defend the girl. I thought about this because I believed that we should save her life because she was facing like a life sentence. And secondary, also I knew that this is going to be a big case, precedent-setting case, which we could use for public education to enhance the dialogue and the conversation around abduction around telefa. Such a story is, for some people, especially people living in the West, it's completely outside their experience; in that sense it will educate people on how women live in the other part of the world. Secondly, it's also a call to action. I believe educational institutions, women's rights organizations and government and non-government institutions whose mandate focus on gender equality would like to use this film for advocacy, for legal reform and to sort of enhance and accelerate programs towards especially fighting child marriage around the world. That's my hope. Getting Angelina Jolie was quite helpful — the movie, the content, the history, the presentation is fantastic, but her agreeing to be executive producer really took it to another level, to another height and I think that was kind of her. I think this film is quite educational in that sense because it does not necessarily judge the community. It does not necessarily sort of point a finger to the community; it sort of shows where the thinking comes from. So it sort of makes you to have a conversation with yourself because it makes you — it's not an easy sort of sin because these people, they have lived with this tradition for a number of years and that's what they know. That's what they believe. From time to time we need to go back to the drawing board and we need to have some real conversation on why these things are happening. It's not enough to say, "Well it's the culture; well it's a tradition." We need to discuss about, unpack and discuss about why this is happening.

Perhaps no other city has been as thoroughly hidden from modern filmmaking as Vancouver, my hometown. Today, it’s the third biggest film production city in North America, behind Los Angeles and New York. And yet for all the movies and TV shows that are shot there, we hardly ever see the city itself. So today, let’s focus less on the movies and more on the city in the background. Press the CC button to see movie names and locations. For educational purposes only. 5 Ways to Save Legal Fees On a Film or Video Project By: Nikia Furman, Film Maker 1. Get signed contracts before you engage with others services or collaboration. 2. Write your own contract, or even make a simple list, with all the details you think are necessary and then email it to your attorney before meet in person or on the phone. It serves as a quick reference for you attorney and can save them a lot of time asking you what you want. They just have to fill in the details you may have overlooked. 3. Set a budget for legal fees. Treat them like every other crew member. If you are on a tight budget, keep looking for an attorney until you find one who agrees to the amount you are offering. They can adjust the services they offer to fit your budget. If you can't find anyone that says yes, raise your budget and try again. 4. Fresh Meat: Use an attorney who is new to the film and video industry. They'll sometimes work for half the price of other attorneys. It will give you some legal security and clout when negotiating contracts. Watch out though! They also tend to write unnecessarily large contracts and are prone to bill for more hours. 5. Anarchy! Some attorneys like to be really vague and make it seem like understanding legal contracts and the legal system is way above you. Anarchists believe that we don't need third parties like government and attorney's interfering. The truth is, we could all live without attorneys if we simply communicated clearly with each other, had perfect memories and were all honest. Attorneys help people communicate more clearly with each other in documents that everyone can reference when they forget (whether on accident or on purpose) what they agreed to in the first place. So, if an attorney isn't being clear with you up front, or seems even moderately intimidating, save yourself trouble and find someone nicer. After all, its a free country! One more thing, keep in mind that law is more of an art form than a science. Any contract is open to interpretation by the courts. More experienced attorneys will know what has worked in the past for all parties involved.

The history of law’s representation is as old as storytelling, but its manifestation in moving pictures elevates the significance of law and its subjects to questions and concerns about the rule of law and equal citizenship in a well-functioning democracy. Professor Silbey traces the appearance and development of the formal legal system (in particular the courtroom process) from the beginning of film in 1895 to the present day, with references to other forms of popular culture, such as television and video. This event was presented as part of the NU@Noon series. To learn more, please visit: https://www.northeastern.edu/alumni/nunoon/.

10 Disgusting Things About The Porn Industry The porn industry will get your gag reflex going with these gruesome tales about incest erotica, chlamydia, and plastic surgery gone wrong. Alltime 10s exposes the shocking truth about the sex trade, in 10 Disgusting Things About The Porn Industry! Music = Black n Blue, by Barrie Gledden / Steve Dymond / David Hoyle Click to Subscribe.. http://bit.ly/WTVC4x 10. Scat porn This dirty fetish makes '2 girls, 1 cup' look vanilla. Production companies like MFX Media specialise in the production of scat porn – that’s erotic material involving poop. 9. Porno Injuries Vigorous bedroom exercise gives these sex athletes serious injuries – vaginal and anal tears are a daily part of the porn star’s life, and in serious cases can cause incontinence. 8. Jerk-off Booths In some pornographic stores, 'adult video arcades' still exist. These are private movie areas, where customers can try before they buy. Adult arcades originated from peep shows: Little coin-operated booths, which played early 20th century pornos. One of the first was ‘What the Butler Saw’, a voyeuristic scene of a woman undressing in her bedroom. 7. Gangbang Legend Sex with multiple partners has been documented as far back as the Roman times. Today, gangbang porn features anything from 12-50 men having sex with 1 woman. And in their efforts to shock, producers are always pushing sex acts to the limit. In 2004, adult film actress Lisa Sparxxx achieved the world gangbang record, when she had sex with 919 men, as part of the Third Annual World Gangbang Championship. 6. Fluffers The name might sound cute, but fluffers are responsible for keeping porn stars in a state of arousal on set. 5. Plastic Surgery Porn stars are under constant pressure to fit the industry’s beauty ideal. Producers expect their female actors to get painful breast implants, because only girls with the biggest boobs will make it onto the DVD box covers. 4. Incest Erotica 82% of erotic literature is consumed by women and the advent of the Kindle has enabled a huge female audience to invest in niche fetish literature, which they can read discreetly wherever they are. Erotica authors are now penning up to 1 porn ‘novel’ a week, in the new popular genre of ‘hypno-incest’: where characters are coerced, through mind control, to have sex with family members and animals. Titles include: 'Gay Cowboy: Pounded by the men who raised me', 'Hypnosis Gay Step Brother', 'Keeping it in the House', and 'Werewolves and Tentacles'. 3. STIs 69% of actors don't wear condoms when they’re making adult films. And in climactic porno scenes, condoms are used just 10% of the time. Because of this, the industry is rife with sexually transmitted infections. 2.'Barely Legal' 'Teen' is the 2nd most popular porn search online, which is why 'Barely Legal' films do so well. These movies feature 18-year-old girls posing as teenagers, but porno producers have found ways to get underage teens on screen. 1. Nazi Porn Weird porn is not a new phenomenon. In the 1950s, the short-lived genre of holocaust erotica became very popular - especially in Israel. Known as 'Stalag fiction', these books told sadistic stories about Nazi imprisonment in concentration camps, and sexual violence by dominatrix, SS guards. Titles such as 'I was Colonel Schultz's Private Bitch' were big hits with teenage boys, and it wasn’t until the 60s that these publications were finally banned by the Israeli government.

Aamir Khan’s Dangal has continuously been making headlines for its rocking collection and revitalizing the film industry reeling under the after effects of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation. However, the film which seems to have touched several hearts with its moving story may soon face legal troubles. The real life wrestling coach, PR Sondhi on whom the character of on-screen coach PR Kadam is loosely based, is not so happy with the negative portrayal in the film. In an interview to a leading daily, he has said that, “I have not seen the film yet, but the facts told to me by my students highlight things that I didn't do. Firstly, there were as many as 5 coaches, including foreign ones from Georgia. Why was I depicted as the only one? “Secondly, the door closing thing? That is preposterous, just to spice things up you can't defame me, can you? I know the name isn't the same, but it's quite evident that I'm the person being referred to here.” For the uninitiated, the sequence which offended Sondhi showed him brimming with jealousy, when Geeta congratulated her father on her final qualification. He would then go onto lock Mahavir inside a dark room, so that he couldn't attend the final. Well, will this have a negative impact on Dangal’s boxoffice business will be a thing to see, for now we just hope the whole issue gets resolved soon.
